RTF to Markdown
Paste the raw contents of an .rtf file — open it in a plain text editor and copy everything, starting from {\rtf1 — and get Markdown back. Covers the common case: paragraphs, bold and italic, the basics most simple Word/TextEdit exports use.
Nothing you paste here is uploaded anywhere — the conversion happens entirely in your browser.
Complex RTF — tables, embedded images, right-to-left text, revision marks — needs a dedicated library. This handles the common case: plain paragraphs with bold/italic.
Recover readable Markdown from a simple .rtf file without opening Word.
Convert basic formatted notes stored as RTF into Markdown for a modern notes app.
Pull bold/italic emphasis back out of an RTF blob pasted from an old system.
RTF is a plain-text format under the hood — opening the .rtf file in a text editor (not Word) shows its actual source, which is what this tool reads.
Not yet — those need a fuller RTF parser. This tool focuses on the common case of paragraphs, bold and italic.
That usually means the RTF uses a formatting control word this basic parser doesn't recognize yet — the underlying text should still come through, just without that specific formatting.
